Well, the surgery is all done. We went in yesterday at 7 am to pre-op. They took her back and did all the pre-op stuff. They evaluated her and asked us a bunch of questions. Luckily they didn't start her I.V. in front of us, they did it after they took her back. They stuck her 3 times in one hand and 2 in the other and ended up blowing a vein, finally they got the I.V. started in her foot. I wouldn't have been able to handle that! After they took her back to surgery we went downstairs to the waiting area, got some coffee and hung out, my mom and dad both came to keep us company in the waiting area. We were only down there about an hour and they called our name. I was really nervous because it was so fast and they said Dr. Bierele was on the phone and I was a little worried that something was wrong. Luckily everything was great and she sailed thorough the surgery and was on her way to the recovery area. We went back upstairs and she was still sleeping (the anesthesia hadn't worn off yet) so we waited until she woke up. She finally woke up, sort of, and I tried to feed her, but she was too groggy to latch on well and fell back asleep. We had to wait 2 hours in recovery so they could monitor her and also for a bed up in the pediatric unit. During our wait Sadie would wake up and cry, we held her then she would go back to sleep. At one point she was extremely unhappy, so they gave her some tylenol and she seemed to feel better after that. We got up to the peds floor about 11:30 am and started out with a room all to ourselves. Sadie mostly slept and we just hung out and visited with family and watched t.v. Later in the evening Sadie got a roommate. A 7 week old baby that had come in to the E.R. with a fever and they couldn't figure out what was wrong with her. They had done all kinds of blood work and a spinal tap. The mother of the baby also has a 21 month old and her husband is overseas, fighting in Iraq. I felt really bad for her and it just reminded me how lucky Adam and I are. Over night was not very restful. Sadie slept most of the night, she woke up about 4 am to eat. The baby next door was crying most of the night and there were nurses in a and out for that baby and to check on Sadie, plus the phlebotomist came up to draw blood from our room mate and she couldn't get a good stick on that baby. I wanted to cry for that baby and mom. About 6:45 ish am the surgeon and residents came up to do rounds and said Sadie looked great (she was all smiles and sunshine at this point) and we could be discharged! we got home about 9 am! I can tell a difference in Sadie already, she doesn't seem to be in so much pain after she eats and she hardly fusses when she has gas (so far), so hopefully it's a good indication of things to come. Adam has to work tonight 4-close and I'll go back to work tomorrow. So, thanks to everyone for your thoughts and prayers please send some out for baby Taylor (our room mate) that she will have a quick recovery and that her daddy comes home safely. Loves to everyone.
